Lieutenant Colonel John “Jack” Haefner is a native of Buffalo, N.Y. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a second lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in 1991.
Lt. Col. Haefner has served in the following troop assignments: Platoon Leader, Battalion Adjutant, and Company Executive Officer in the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; Battalion Maintenance Officer and Battalion Logistics Officer in the 94th Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Heavy), Vilseck, Germany; Company Commander, 535th Engineer Company (Combat Support Equipment), Grafenwoehr, Germany; and Battalion Operations and Executive Officer for the 29th Engineer Battalion (Topographic), Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
In addition, Lt. Col. Haefner served as operations officer and instructor at the Defense Mapping School, National Imagery and Mapping Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va., as the U.S. Army, Pacific Geospatial-Intelligence Officer (G2), Fort Shafter, Hawaii, and as Deputy Chief for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Support Team to the U.S. Army in Reston, Va.
Operational deployments include Operations UPHOLD DEMOCRACY (Haiti), JOINT ENDEAVOR (NATO IFOR Bosnia-Herzegovina), TASK FORCE HAWK (Albania), and JOINT GUARDIAN (Kosovo). Lt. Col. Haefner is also a U.S. Army Master Parachutist with Japanese and Australian jump qualifications; he also holds the Pathfinder badge.
Lt. Col. Haefner holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass., and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, Rolla, Mo. He is also a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the Joint Forces Staff College.
