DEFINITIONS
Sustainability -
Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their needs. Fort A.P. Hill will strive to provide Warriors with the
necessary training to ensure mission success while minimizing local or regional
environmental quality.
ISO 14001 -
Is a series of international standards on environmental management providing
a framework for the development of both the system and the supporting audit program
for Fort A.P. Hill.
Installation Environmental Policy -
The mission of the United States Army Garrison, Fort A.P. Hill, is to operate
a regional center providing realistic joint and combined arms training support
focused on developing America's Defense Forces to win in the 21st Century battlespace.
The Garrison will perform this mission in consonance with our stewardship responsibility
to preserve and protect the environment, and our natural resources. In accomplishing
our mission, we commit to:
Integrate sound environmental practices into all our operations and
business decisions.
Continually assess our activities, products and services to determine
their effect on the environment. Identify the significant environmental
impacts and ensure that they are considered when establishing our objectives
and targets in our environmental management programs.
Ensure implementation of pollution prevention measures and waste
minimization programs.
Establish quantifiable goals for environmental performance.
Conduct regular management reviews to continually assess our progress
towards our environmental goals.
Educate our employees about their responsibilities under this policy
and recognize them for outstanding commitment.
Sustain our partnership with local, state, and federal regulatory
agencies to continue compliance with existing and new regulations,
legislation and other requirements.
Ensure the community's awareness of our environmental policy.
Enhance mission accomplishment by focusing on readiness requirements
as well as compliance.
