Frequently
Asked Questions – Real Property
What steps do I need to acquire additional keys or to
replace lost or
stolen keys?
Contact the Real Property Office at (804) 633-8467. The Real Property
Officer will discuss the issue with you. Usually additional keys can be
cut the same day, depending on the workload. Changing locks requires
additional time because, in most instances, the lock must be ordered
due to limited stocks available.
My unit/organization is moving. What do I need to do to relinquish
the facilities I no longer need? I no longer require a facility and I want
to clear it from my hand receipts.
Contact the Real Property Office at (804) 633-8467 and set up an
appointment to do a walk-thru inspection to return the building to the
DPW, Real Property Staff. Walk-thru inspections should be scheduled
at least 30 days prior to departure to determine if there are items
that will need repair prior to transferring the facility back to the
DPW. A final walk-thru will be held before departure to collect all
keys and ensure the building is in a clean, orderly condition.

justification for the work. The description should also contain

Why do I need a digging permit to do any digging on the Installation?
On the installation there are areas that contain buried gas,
electrical, water, and sewer lines. There are also telephone lines,
local area network lines, television cables and fiber optic cables
buried just below the surface. It is very important that digging
permits are used and taken seriously by everyone involved in digging,
either by hand or with equipment. Digging into sewers, water lines,
electrical distribution and communication lines will result in work
stoppages for employees, contractors, health and safety issues for
workers, and families, and expensive repairs. When digging on Fort A.P.
Hill, digging permits are required and must be followed.
Where do I get a digging permit?
